Zorgvliet wines sealed with wine screw caps |

The battle of whether to use corks or wine screw caps for sealing wines is one that wine connoisseurs have been logging heads over. The pro-corks argument states that wine is a culture and heritage embedded in theology and celebrations of life; 'wine screw caps cheapen wine, degrade it, and render it pedestrian'. The decision for the other side to use wine screw caps is because cork is tainted with trichloroanisole also known as TCA created when moulds combine with other naturally occurring chemicals. Unfortunately, the cork industry has been very slow to respond to winemakers' demands for quality so more are turning to wine screw caps.
Zorgvliet Wine Estate, a premium wine producer in the Stellenbosch winelands in South Africa, uses wine screw caps. Zorgvliet Wines make every effort to keep abreast with wine trends in the industry to provide quality products to its clients. Zorgvliet's wine ranges include Zorgvliet Richelle, Zorgvliet range and Silver Myn range. Most of Zorgvliet's wine ranges have wine screw caps as seals.
Zorgvliet Wines is part of the Zorgvliet Portfolio which has grown to encompass a range of hospitality and travel companies namely Zorgvliet Wines, Riviera on Vaal Hotel & Country Club, Ka'Ingo Private Reserve & Spa, Zorgvliet Vineyard Lodge & Spa, Zorgvliet Spa, Zorgvliet Property Development, Dinkweng Safari Camp, Sure Zorgvliet Travel and St Andrews Travel. Zorgvliet wines, with wine screw caps, are served at all Zorgvliet Portfolio destinations around South Africa. Zorgvliet Wines is also active in the strong Indian wine market.
Wine connoisseurs on the cork vs. wine screw caps battle:
- John Corbett Milward from the UK's Wines and Spirits Association - 'My belief is that people haven't attempted to keep wines for a long time with a wine screw cap, but as far as use is concerned, some people like them and some don't. We have no particular concern over the use of the materials.'
- Pierre Mansour from the Wine Society, the world's oldest co-operative wine club - 'We don't care how a wine is closed, as long as what's in the bottle is good.'
