Grape growers are being warned to take climate change more seriously. A visiting American academic, Professor Greg Jones, has warned that wine grape-growing will suffer greatly from the effects of climate change.

Bridal couples from around the globe are flocking to the Cape winelands to celebrate their special day, with an estimated R120 million being spent by bridal parties in the region in the past year. Top-end wedding co-ordinators attribute this growth to the success of the winelands becoming a truly outstanding wedding destination and to the South African industry pushing the boundaries of wedding trends to create world-class experiences.

The soaring Australian dollar is costing major wine exporters millions of dollars and has caused a slowdown in bottled sales. While exports reached a record $3.02 billion last year, experts say a combination of drought, the high dollar and foreign competition means the industry now faces significant challenges.

National governments sign off on reform intended to consolidate market. The Council of Ministers has formally adopted a wide-reaching reform of the EU wine sector intended to encourage the most inefficient European wine producers to abandon production and to help the sector face up to increasingly tough competition from ‘new world' wines.

The Boland region is gearing up for South Africa's biggest regional wine extravaganza - the Stellenbosch Wine Festival. Expecting more than 12,000 visitors this year, the sixth annual Stellenbosch Wine Festival will take place from 31 July to 3 August at the Paul Roos Centre. This year's festival promises an even bigger line-up than before with over 100 wineries on show, more than 500 wines to taste, mouth-watering delicacies and amazing entertainment.

Chinese wine will conquer the world in terms of volume and fine wine, a recent study suggests. According to the Future of Wine report, drawn up by London-based wine merchants Berry Bros & Rudd (BBR), China, which is already the world's sixth largest producer, will lead the world by the year 2058
